Workshop Details

This will be a structured class with 12 seats available. There will be two groups of 6 students each. Availability is on a first come-first serve basis.

  • Cost: $40 per student, plus safety equipment if you need it
  • Time: About 4 hours
  • What will be taught: Stick (arc), MIG, and TIG welding. Also how to use the plasma cutter.
  • Goals: To get comfortable operating the equipment and to learn how to not damage the equipment. This is a jumping off-point for students to continue learning on their own on their own time after this.

All students will be one-on-one with an instructor the entire time they are operating equipment. There will be about 30 minutes of classroom time before getting hands-on. Three students will be hands-on for 30 minutes and then they will rotate to the next station (with three welding stations plus the plasma cutter). After the first set of three finish the students waiting on-deck will get hands-on. Students on-deck are encouraged to watch and learn from with students who are hands-on.

Schedule

Saturday, July 16th

Session 1:

9:30am-1:30pm

Session 2:

2:30pm-6:30pm

Safety equipment

All students in the same session will be required to have their own helmet (and gloves, unless you enjoy other peoples sweat). Remember, most of the helmets at the space belong to the instructors and we will be using our own gear in parallel with you. Students can share helmets only if they are in opposite sessions, if you are in the same session you must have your own helmet. We may have an extra helmet to spare. Bloominglabs gets a discount at Indiana Oxygen, if you need to buy a helmet let me know and we can make a group purchase (about $37 per helmet unless you want anything more than the basic non-autodarkening unit).
